چکیده

Until the late 1960's there was a remarkable lack of information on the consequences of asthma on arterial oxygenation [1, 2). Since then, it has been known that arterial blood gas abnormalities can range from overt hypoxaemia, usually associated with hypocapnia and respiratory alkalosis, as shown in acute severe asthma, to mild increases in the alveolar-arterial 0 2 tension difference (AaPo,) alone, as seen in asymptomatic patients with mild-asthma [3). The identification of the features of gas exchange impairment and their impact on the guidelines for clinical management of the disease were progressively established during the 1970's [4, 5) . However, a full understanding of the underlying physiological mechanisms accounting for the abnormalities of arterial blood gases in asthma was only achieved after 1978 with the advent of early studies assessing the ventilation-perfusion (VA/0) ratio distributions in patients with asthma [6).

Pulmonary gas exchange response following allergen challenge in patients with allergic asthma.

Pulmonary gas exchange was studied in 8 patients with allergic asthma before and after allergen challenge. Ventilation-perfusion relationships were assessed by the multiple inert gas elimination technique and forced expiratory flow by conventional spirometry. Measurements were made before, 7-8 minutes, and 0.5, 2.5 and 5 hours after challenge. During baseline conditions all patients showed norm...

Immunotherapy of Chenopodium Album Induced Asthma by Intranasal Administration of CpG Oligodeoxynucleotides in BALB/c Mice

Background: There are many therapeutic methods for allergic conditions. CpG oli-gonucleotides play a critical role in immunity via the augmentation of Th1 and suppres-sion of Th2 responses. Objective: In the present study we aimed to estimate the effec-tiveness of intranasal administration of CpG ODN plus Chenopodium album allergen in allergic asthma compared with the administration of allergen...

The effects of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells on ovalbumin-induced allergic asthma and cytokine responses in mice

Objective(s): Allergic Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the lungs that is characterized by increased infiltration of leukocytes into the airways, limiting the respiratory function. Studies suggest that a defective general regulatory system against inflammation could be a significant factor in allergic asthma. It has been shown that Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have a cellular immunosuppres...

5-BDBD ameliorates an OVA-induced allergic asthma by the reduction of Th2 cytokines production

Objective(s): P2X4R is expressed in immunocyte and lung tissues. It has been a focus in inflammatory responses recently. This study investigated whether blockage of P2X4R attenuates allergic inflammation by modulating T cell response in ovalbumin-sensitized mice. Materials and Methods: Ovalbumin was used to sensitize and challenge for a mouse model. Intranasal application of 5-BDBD, P2X4R antag...

Expression and activation of TGF-beta isoforms in acute allergen-induced remodelling in asthma.

BACKGROUND Airway wall remodelling and inflammation are features of chronic asthma. Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) has been implicated in these processes. AIM To determine the effect of allergen challenge on airway inflammation and remodelling and whether TGF-beta isoforms and the Smad signalling pathways are involved. METHODS Thirteen patients with atopic asthma underwent inhal...
